I was just wondering if anyone can fill me in regarding the law and hedge cutting in relation to nesting birds.

I have seen hedges being cut by tractor right in the middle of "nesting season". Is this legal? Are there any dates between which it is illegal to cut a hedge?

 The way I understand it, it is an offence to "disturb nesting birds" rather than anything specific about cutting hedges etc at any particular time.
